Is 2000 IU Enough To Trigger Ovulation?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 May 2014
Question: I am currently in the 2ww post my IUI that happened last week. Mine was a cycle on HMG injections. I had one follicle of size 22 mm when the trigger was given. My IUI was 18 hours post the trigger. My E2 was 1700 on the day of trigger and LH was 10. I have 2 questions - 1. For the trigger, the doctor only gave me 2000 IU of HCG and when I asked her if it was sufficient, she told me that it is good enough. I have been reading on the internet that 10000 IU is the standard. Will this affect my egg maturation? 2. My IUI (single) was done 18 hours post the trigger. Is this too early?

Brief Answer: Yes Detailed Answer: Hi, I read your query and I understand your concerns. Following is my reply: 1) Yes. 2000 IU is enough to trigger the ovulation. 10000 IU is little extra dose. Reduced dosage of 2000 IU is good if doctor was expecting more eggs to ovulate and cause hyperstimulation. This small dose is enough for ovulation. 2) Timing of IUI should be between 30 to 40 hours after hCG injection as ovulation is expected to occur around 36 hours after injection on an average. 3) Your IUI was bit early. But sperms to survive for about 24 hours and hence not bad as sperms would have been alive when ovulation occurred. 4) Your husband's semen parameters appear fine. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Regards, Dr. Mahesh Koregol IVF & Infertility Specialist
