default
Posted on Sat, 21 Sep 2013
Question: Respected doctor, my inner thighs and the butt areas are darker than the other parts of my body. I am a swimmer and I am not comfortable wearing the regular swim suit due to this difference. Please suggest a cream or treatment that may fix this problem.

Brief Answer:
Skin lightening cream, Peels.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
This hyper pigmentation can be removed by using skin lightening creams.
Various creams are available like melalite xl, lookbrite, Lumaglow etc.
You can take any of them.

The following should be procedure to use it.
1. Wash the affected area in evening around 7.
2. Dry it and apply cream all over the area.
3. Keep it for one hour.
4. Wash the area again.
5. Apply some moisturizing cream and sleep.
6. In morning apply a sunscreen with spf at least 30.
Sunscreen is important as you are swimmer so sun protection is required.

Do this for a month, you will see the results.
Peeling is a good option.
You can go for glycolic acid peel, once a month.

Both these can be combined.

Let me know if you have any doubt.

Thank you

Thank you so much for the response, doctor!

Are the above quoted creams and peel off available in the local drug store? If yes, should i just use the names mentioned in your response or are there any specific names for these creams?

Brief Answer:
hydroquinone

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the follow up.
The molecule is hydroquinone 4 %.
It comes with various names in various countries.
Just ask for hydroquinone.

About peels you can XXXXXXX a dermatologist.
It cannot be done at home.

Best is try the cream for a month and if the response is slow you can go for peels.

Thank you
