Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
There are several disorders that can lead to cough. As I believe that more information can help a physician help a patient better, I would request you to answer the following questions:
     Have you had similar symptoms in the past?
     Do you have any associated chills, fever, headaches or night sweats?
     Do you smoke? If yes, how long have you been smoking?
     Do you have high blood pressure? If yes, are you taking any medication for it?
     Is there any associated wheezing?
     Does your cough worsen in dust or after going to certain locations?
     Do you have a pet at home?
     Is there any post nasal drip or any history of sinusitis?
     Do you suffer from any regurgitation of stomach acid in your throat or mouth?
     Has any investigation been done so far?
     Have you visited any doctor and taken any treatment?

Awaiting your reply
Thanks

Regards

Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
You seem to be suffering from a respiratory tract infection. Generally speaking, smokers are predisposed to such conditions since smoke damages the lining of the airways and makes them prone to infections.
I would suggest the following:
a.     Steam inhalation twice a day would benefit
b.     Take tablet cetrizine 10 mg in the day. Talk to your physician about a medication called diphenhydramine if the symptoms are bad at night
c.     Stop smoking. You will notice a dramatic improvement in a few days.
d.     Change your pillow covers daily and wash your bed linen in hot water to get rid of allergens.
I hope I have addressed your concerns. I will be available for follow up queries.
Regards
