Question: I'm having a problem with my bowel movements. I have had IBS for years and under control but now I constantly feel I have to go and when I go its very painful and swigly and sometimes there is blood when I wipe. I had a sinus infection in 3/18 and 5/18 could the antibiotic cause this? My e-mail address is YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
medications

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

As there was antibiotic use in 3rd and 5th month, its effect will not be so prolonged.
Are you taking some medicine for IBS at present?
Can you give detail to me in follow up question?
Do you have any anal fissure at present as blood is on wiping?
And is the blood bright red and on passing hard stool only?
Please provide this information.
Waiting for reply.

I'm not on any medication for IBS. I have been stable with diet. I am on prescription potassium because levels were down to 2.4. I never had a fissure before. The blood is both when wiping a small amount in stool. The stools are not hard but small and swirlly and painful.

My list of medications are Potassium, Ranitidine, Simvastatin,Vascepa and Xarelto (PE 3yrs ago) and Lithium.

Brief Answer:
Xarelto seems to be the culprit

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

As you are taking Rivaroxaban for pulmonary embolism prophylaxis, this is causing your blood in the stool.

Please discuss with your prescribing doctor to reduce the dosage of Rivaroxaban.
Avoid any unnecessary herbal products as these give rise to interactions with blood thinners.

Regards
