Are Abdominal And Shoulder Pain Indicative Of Heart Issues?

default
Posted on Tue, 26 Dec 2023
Question: If I woke today with a rear left shoulder pain but have been having abdominal cramping for the past few days, could that be a sign of a heart issue? I've had chest and shoulder pain before (probably had about 4 EKGs and bloodwork) and it's never once come back as cardiac. I went to the ER last night for the GI pain and they did a CBC (but I dont know if that checked the enzyme that's released during a cardiac event).

Was wondering if this was more likely a muscle pain or possible anxiety, or if its a heart issue?

Hello,

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms do not seem to be related to any cardiac disorders.

Anxiety or a musculoskeletal pain (related to inflammation could be the probable cause underlying your complaints.

So just relax and don't worry about it!

I would just recommend taking acetaminophen or ibuprofen for the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you so much for the response doctor!

If I may ask another question, that would be amazing.
So on Tuesday evening, after eating days of unhealthy meals, I awoke with a horrific cramping and nausea, to which I went to the ER. They performed a CT scan with contrast and drew some blood (checking liver, pancreas, kidneys, glucose, etc.). They said that they only saw a large amount of stool in my colon but the doctor didn't say constipated due to me being able to use the restroom. Since then, a milder version of the cramping returns nearly every day and Bentyl & Doxycycline seem to help with it. I'm wondering what this could be if a CT and blood work ruled out anything frightening?

Thank you so much,
Chase

My answer as follows:

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to irritable bowel syndrome, which is a temporary dysfunction of the bowel, probably due to an infection, as Doxycycline is helping to improve your situation (doxycycline is an antibiotic).

It could be all triggered by bad and uncontrolled food.

Anyway, this situation is temporary and you will feel better soon.

You should just be patient and use a healthy diet (a lot of fibres, vitamins, fresh vegetables or fruits, etc) and avoid spicy food.

I would also recommend staying in warm and avoiding getting out in the cold, as cold can trigger the cramps.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you doctor.
This abdominal cramping is pretty dibiliating.
I took some milk of magnesia to try to void my bowels, but I haven’t gone to the restroom that much today, let alone no relief in this pain. It’s been going on since Tuesday and it came about pretty quickly. I just don’t want it to be something serious and I imagine that the CT scan and/or blood tests would’ve picked something up. Would blood work detect a serious pancreatic/liver issue? I’m wondering if this is some sort of blockage but the ER doc didn’t say that the CT showed a blockage.

Brief Answer:

I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

It does not seem to be anything serious.

Maybe a viral or bacterial infection, which is triggering irritable bowel syndrome.

If there were any problems with your pancreas or if it were any serious blockage, it would be detected by the blood lab tests and CT scan.

So, just relax and try not to worry about it! You should be patient, as you need some days (up to one week) to recovery.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
