Question: If I had protected vaginal sex with an unknown status (not an IV user or prostitute/high risk) female over two years ago and I am and have always been 100% asymptomatic am I okay? I hadn’t given it any thought until I read an article yesterday that said transmission rates of HIV were rising amongst high risk people (men to men, sharing needles etc). It kind of freaked me out.

Brief Answer:
HIV test will rule out the possibility of HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

In a majority of individuals with HIV infection, they will likely be to have their manifestations only after 5-7 years after the exposure in the presence of an infection.

HIV may not have any direct effect on one's body most of the time. During their replication inside the body, it will lead to the destruction of body cells responsible for immunity. When the immunity of the body got reduced beyond the critical level, then only the individual starts manifestation and these will go severely when the immunity worsens in advanced condition.

The blood test will become positive within 3 months after the infection.
So the only way to know your HIV status is by taking up an HIV test.
