Question: I was told to go to the er by my dr.s office for chest pain i had been having throughout the week. The er did an ekg. It said i had prolonged qt. After researching i understand that my corrected qt is 469. It also says t wave abnormality. Do i need to see a heart dr or is my family physician ok? Also should i be worried at all about long qt syndrome? My sister was passing out regularly till they took her off a medication. I have had times in my life where i almost passed out but i attributed it to standing up to fast.

I would recommend as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your QT is borderline (within the normal ranges).

You should know that QT prolongation may lead to life threatening cardiac arrhythmia ( torsades deficiency pointers, ventricular tachycardia).

Coming to this point, I would recommend follow up every 3 months with a resting ECG and blood electrolytes, in order to be sure that everything is OK.

In the meantime, I would recommend discussing with your doctor on the possibility of reducing the dose of ability or Zoloft, if possible, because these drugs contribute on the QT prolongation.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
