I Ve Had A Pea Sized Swollen Lymph Node On

default
Posted on Tue, 2 May 2023
Question: I've had a pea sized swollen lymph node on my upper left side of neck right at hairline.. if I feel for a bit I can feel a super small one on the left side same spot. I asked the doctor and he said it is nothing to worry about it is soft/mobile. Its been there for maybe 3 months and I have no pain and it hasn't changed size. I did have blood work done (CBC with differential) which was routine with my blood pressure medicine and everything was normal. I don't believe I have a scalp infection and haven't been sick in awhile. Is this something to be concerned about? My doctor seemed like it was nothing....

Brief Answer:
There seems to be nothing to worry about

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
With the description that you have provided, this small lump may not be significant as it has not enlarged, not caused you pain, is XXXXXXX and soft, small in size.
If there would have been any scalp infection it would have increased with some symptoms.
Hence I think there is nothing to worry about.

What is the exact location and size of the swelling?

About an inch and a half to the left of my spine right at the hair line. A little smaller then a pea. No pain And no other symptoms or discomfort. It is just there. You can not see the lump if looking but I can feel it.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasonography helps

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback and a photo.
It may be better to have an ultrasound of the area to know the cause of the swelling like a lymph node or a lipoma or a sebaceous cyst.

My doctor didn’t seem further tests were warrented being it’s not growing, no pain, no other symptoms. Should I demand it?

Brief Answer:
If your Doctor agrees on discussion and request. Do not demand

Detailed Answer:
This is a second opinion that I am forwarding.
You have to be with your Doctor as he has examined you.
Ultrasound examination and FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) is only for the sake of confirmation in cases of doubts.
As mentioned above there are not urgent investigations needed in such cases.
These are done only if the patient still has doubts.
You may please discuss once again with your Doctor suggesting the need of these and go ahead only if he/she says so.
Until them you may please have wait and watch policy.
