default
Posted on Fri, 6 Oct 2023
Question: I start to have strange sensation in my lips few weeks back. Now, I have a swollen upper lip with metallic taste in my mouth specially when I rub my lips. The metallic taste is all the time in my mouth, specially after meals. My dermatologist doctor describes vitamin B for 1 month , and daily use of mouthwash (betadine), but so far I see no change in the case after more than two weeks of using the medicine
My dentist also examined my teeth and gum and he said they are fine

Brief Answer:
bad taste in the mouth

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have read your query and here is my advice.

First of all, swollen lips can be from:
-injury
-allergy(insect bite, food, medication, or pollen)
-infection(either bacterial ,fungal, or viral)

A metallic taste in the mouth might be from:
-prescription meds
-a cold or sinus infection
-multivitamins or zinc lozenges
-dementia
-radiotherapy or chemotherapy

Also, consider gastroesophageal reflux. In this condition partially digested stomach contents can come back up into the mouth. I mention this because you notice the taste, especially after meals.

I hope these suggestions are food for thought.

Thanks.
