How Must Elevated High Pressure And Mild Anxiety Attacks Be Managed While On Thyroid Medication?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Feb 2024
Question: I recently changed my thyroid medication. I was taking 150 mcg manufactured by Leggett and changed to a generic brand. I've recently experience elevated high pressure and mild anxiety attacks. With no changes to lifestyle, diet, exercise, etc., my question is this........could the change in medication impact my blood pressure and anxiety. If so, what do you recommend since my new
insurance coverage no longer works with my former pharmacy and the new pharmacy does not carry the Leggett brand? Thanks. Dan

Brief Answer:
The name of your thyroid medication.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have gone through your query.

I deduct that your thyroid medication is Levothyroxine.(150 mcg Levothyroxine/day.

The switch to a generic brand,in my opinion is not the cause of your actual symptoms.
High blood pressure and anxiety attacs can be symptoms of hypethyroidism.

I suggest to do a TSH test to see if you need dosis adjusment of the thyroid hormone replacement therapy.

About the high blood pressure i suggest to consult your treating doctor because you may need to add an other antihypertensive drug(ex: a diuretic or a calciun chanel blocker) to stabilise your blood pressure because this is very important to do apart Levothyroxine dose adjusment.

Hope this is helpful.
Regards.
