How Should Pain At The Inguinal Hernia Surgery Site Along With Back Pain A Year After Surgery Be Medically Addressed?
Question: I'm 53 years old and I had inguinal hernia surgery last July. 2 weeks ago, out of the blue, I began to feel pain in that area. At first it was gradual, but now it is more frequent. Right now it is a dull pain and it seems as if it is accompanied by lower back pain on the right side.

Considering your previous history, it may be post herniorraphy pain syndrome which is caused by ingrown of MESH into inguinal nerves which may occur even years after surgery. Second, it may be caused by disc dislocation or arthrosis of lumbar vertebra.
At this point, you should rest take diclofenac or paracetamol.
If there wont be improvement you should do MRI scan of lumbar spine and EMG of ilioinguinal nerve. In severe cases it may be treated with surgery, but first, the exact cause should be established.
