Brief Answer:
Cough syrups are Scheduled drugs and should only be prescribed after examination in person.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

- How long have you been having this cough?
- Do you have any fever?
- What is the color of sputum (Phlegm)?
- Is there any throat pain?

In addition to knowing answers to the above questions, it is essential to examine you in person to prescribe you any medicine that is scheduled.

I can only advise you to take an OTC cough syrup for now as I have not examined you in person. Please ask your pharmacist for an over the counter cough syrup.

In addition to that, you must do salt water gargling 4 times a day,

Steam inhalation with vicks capsules 3 times a day.

If you do not see any improvement, or if there is fever and sore throat, you should consult your local doctor and get examined to rule out bacterial infection and depending on the examination findings further treatment can be decided.

I hope to have been of some use. Wishing you speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr. Yogesh D.
