What Causes Popping And Soreness Of An Air Bubble Below The Ear While Singing?
Question: I have an air bubble or something below my ear thats been there for several years and when i would sing it would pop and get sore. I didn’t think to much about it because I don’t sing much but i am in a musical and have been singing and its popping and gets sore. What is causing this and what i do to stop it? Can a chiropractor pop my jaw and make it better?
Brief Answer:
Possibly a hemangioma.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
It would have been better to attach a picture along with the query!
As per your description the swelling/lump is there for many years and not increased in size. The possibilities are hemangioma or rarely dermoid.
Surgical excision(removal) is the best treatment for such benign swellings.
I suggest you to consult an ENT specialist to make a correct diagnosis.
Chiropractors are alternative medicine and no scientific evidence proves their efficacy. You might get some symptomatic relief though:
Wishing you good health.
Feel free to follow up.
Thanks

Its not a lump or knot just kind of an air bubble and when i sing opening my mouth wide my jaw it pops or clicks and that makes that area below my ear sore. I don’t know if it could be because I dont sing much or open my mouth that wide and maybe it will quit after i do it more often or if something could be wrong or could i need my jaw popped. The musical is the end of XXXXXXX and we have 3 practices a week about 2 hrs each
Brief Answer:
TMD(tempero mandibular joint disorder)
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow up and making it more clear.
You are having Something called TMD(tempero mandibular joint disorder)
It arise from problems with the muscles of your jaw or with the parts of the joint itself. Most common causes are excessive stress on the joint as in wide opening of mouth while singing and arthritis of joint itself.
Symptoms are pain and tenderness on the jaw area and Clicking, popping sound while opening.
You have to OMFS(oromaxillary facial surgeon) specialist for further evaluation, you may require an X-ray and most probably MRI scan to assess the joint anatomy.
Most cases resolve well with co0nservative measures like analgesics, splints and ranscutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). Rarely if symptoms are severe surgery may be needed.
Thanks
