Brief Answer:
You'd better visit the doctor.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Fever and cough are usually caused by 'simple' respiratory tract infections. Sometimes more serious infections may cause it (like pneumonia). Although in some cases pneumonia has more ominous symptoms and signs like pleuritic chest pain, high fever with rigor, shortness of breath, etc there are cases where the symptoms may resemble those of the much less serious infections. The doctor may distinguish between serious and less serious infections with clinical examination.

So in conclusion, although the most likely cause is a self-limited viral respiratory tract infection, a visit to your doctor is recommended.

Hope I have answered your query.
