Are Severe Sore Throat, Redness At The Back Of The Mouth And Sores On The Tongue Serious Concerns?

Question: I have a severe sore throat from what I have been told is a head cold that has apparently moved into my mouth as well. I don't see anything besides redness in the back of my mouth but there are three or four sores on the tip of my tongue and at least one of them looks like a canker sore. I was hospitalized with cellulitis (?) three weeks ago and last week finished the antibiotic I was prescribed. I can only eat soft foods or liquids since it hurts to swallow anything firm. No fever at the moment though I do get severe headaches since last sunday,

Brief Answer:
Possible upper respiratory tract infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam

I can certainly understand your concern

I have worked through your attached query in detail.

As per your symptoms you seem to have acute infection of throat. This is called posterior pharyngitis.

This condition requires antibiotic agents for effective cure. I generally prescribe oral medication of amoxyclav and chlorhexidine to my patients with such symptoms.

Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these medications to you.

Post your further queries if any
Thank you
