I Had A Total Hysterectomy , Gall Bladder And Appendix

default
Posted on Sun, 31 Mar 2019
Question: I had a total hysterectomy, gall bladder and appendix removed all within 3 months about 20 years ago. I had really bad endometriosis which prompted the surgeries. They found endometriosis on my appendix as well. 6 months ago I started experiencing fatigue and bad night sweats. I have a constant pain in my lower right groin area and along my right side at my waist line. I have occasional menstrual cramps as well which makes no sense. I have a discharge from my vagina which is causing sores in my rectum as well. I also get pain in my rectum. My dr has done a colonoscopy, an ultrasound and MRI and they see nothing except a thickening of the walls of my vagina. I saw a gynecologist who said that meant nothing. Is it possible scar tissue from the 3 surgeries could be causing some of the pain? I continue to have bad night sweats as well which I've been told could be an indicator something is wrong. I'm really at my wit's end to feel better. I see my dr on 3/26. Thanks much.

Brief Answer:
Scar tissue can cause adhesions.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.

The scar tissue from the surgeries done 20 years ago is not likely to cause pain now.

The scars can cause adhesions in the abdomen causing mild pain. The pain at a specific area can be related to mild nerve root compression at the lumbar spine also. MRI scan of the lumbar spine can help in ruling this out.

The bad night sweats can be related to generalized weakness also. Using heavy bed covers can also cause such a problem. You need to increase your daily fluid intake and see if it helps. You can also use Lactic acid containing vaginal wash and observe thereafter how you stay.

I hope this answers your query.

I've tried everything for the night sweats and they continue. At the age of 69 can anything female hormonal be related to how I'm feeling? Is there any hormone imbalance that can occur at my age? I'm trying to figure out why night sweats for 6 months and pelvic pain. Earlier last summer I started getting yeast infections with pain and white bumps on the outside of my vagina and anus. Then the night sweats.started in Sept and continue. Could endometriosis have any bearing at all? I had the hysterectomy and then my appendix was removed 3 months later. I was told it had endometriosis on it. Is it at all possible there could be residual endometriosis? Or scar tissue/adhesions? Could a sonogram show anything? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Endometriosis is not likely to cause the night sweats but it can be related to postmenopausal hormonal changes. Residual endometriosis is less likely after so many years of hysterectomy. But scar tissue adhesions is a stronger possibility. A sonogram will not help much. It is better to get an MRI scan or a diagnostic laparoscopy.
Hope my answer is helpful.
