Is Rapid Heart Palpitation While On Aspirin And Carvedilol A Sign Of A Heart Attack?

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Oct 2023
Question: I had 3 stents put in my heart in Feb of 2013. I am on carvedilol .12mg bid and 1 325 mg aspirin. I am plavix resistant. within the past few weeks I've started having episodes where my heart starts racing for no apparent reason. I am supposed to see my cardiologist on the 25th of May. Should I change my appointment? Is this a warning sign of another possible heart attack?

Brief Answer:
Need cardiac evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma’am

After going through your medical details I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that racing heart rate can be because of your already existing graves disease or heart disease and can be due to anxiety which is very common.

As you are already a cardiac patient chances to develop arrhythmic disorder are very common, evaluation is important because some of the cardiac arrhythmias can cause sudden cardiac arrest or can be fatal.

Considering your age and already existing cardiac disease I’ll advise you to get the following tests done

1. ECG

2. Echocardiography

3. Holter ( ambulatory ecg) for 48 hours

4. Treadmill Test/stress Test

These tests will assure you if anything serious is there.

Hopefully this information will guide you properly.

Kind Regards
Dr Bhanu Partap
