Question: I fell tubing on a lake in XXXXXXX a few days ago. Water went up my nose at a high rate of speed causing severe burning. It's been 2 days and I'm still experiencing burning and pressure. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
Not likely, but remain vigilant

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

You certainly had some trauma related to the high force/pressure exerted by this water in the nostrils. It will take some days to heal. There is nothing to be scared of at this time.

However, should you have a fever, neck stiffness, or moderate to severe headaches, please seek immediate medical evaluation. For now, there is no need for medical evaluation but remain vigilant.

I hope these guides and help. I wish you well.

Feel free to follow up with me if need be.

Hello Dr. Ditah,

It has been 4 days since I fell tubing. Today I woke up with still a burning like headache, although not severe, post-nasal drip, swollen lymph node in my neck and a slight sore throat. I have slight chest congestion as well. Could I have developed a sinus infection/upper respiratory infection from the water?

Brief Answer:
I suggest you get an X-ray of the chest!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If these symptoms persist, I suggest you get evaluated and possible imaging of the sinuses done. These could certainly be caused by an infection and I will like to see this excluded.

I hope this guides and helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me to allow me understand how you are doing.
