What Causes Esophageal Constriction, Lightheadedness And Chills While Eating?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Apr 2024
Question: I ate food and felt my esophagus constrict making difficult to swallow and then developed chills and light-headed. I have been getting treated for an allergic reaction but now 3 days later while under treatment I finally started eating again and while I was eating, I developed the same constriction of my esophagus and once again developed chills. I laid down and it seemed to pass quickly. Is this normal for a food allergy or what are your thoughts?

Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for putting up the query
Allergic disease usually doesn't cause any such symptoms.
The symptoms mentioned by you are suggestive of some esophageal neuromuscular cause.
Please tell me do you have any history of gastric acid reflux disease or regurgitation or burning sensation in the throat or indigestion?
Any psychological stress?
Follow up with the required information so that I can suggest You better.
Also tell me what medicines have you been taking so far?
Take care
Thanks and regards

I'm only taking Methyiprednisolone 4 mg tablets.

I have no pain swallowing, just difficulty swallowing.

I've experienced burning sensation in my throat in the past but not frequently.

I do have some stress but no more than normal.

Also, I feel weak because I'm not able to eat but I also have loss of appetite.

Brief Answer:
Odynophagia

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the information.
Stop with methylprednisolone with tapering doses.
Take capsule pantoprazole once daily and syrup antacid 2 tsp thrice daily.
Apply candid mouth paint to the oral mucosa and don't spit for sometime. Apply it 4 to 5 times a day.
Take all for a week.
Avoid any spicy food and aerated drinks.
Avoid a sedentary lifestyle.
Get a barium swallow study done and an endoscopic examination of the throat done.
All the medicines I have prescribed will be available only on prescription.
Any further questions are always welcome.
Take care
Thanks and regards
