What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Feet Whenever I Walk To Exercise?

default
Posted on Tue, 26 Sep 2023
Question: I am over weight and have been trying to exercise a little more to help with that but whenever I walk a lot, my feet swell and it's painful for a few days then I can go back to exercise. Don't know what to do about this and was wondering what could be causing it. I'm taking medication for allergy (singulair), depression (escitalopram), and acyclovir for my fever blisters. Am 59 years old, 5'3" and weigh 170lbs.

Brief Answer:
Venous insufficiency most probably

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma'am,
I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but it seems that you are suffering from the vascular insufficiency of your lower limbs probably of venous origin which occurs due to the incompetence of the valves of lower limbs' veins..

I would recommend that you get a doppler study of your lower limb to confirm the diagnosis. I would also recommend that you wear compression stockings while walking and elevate your legs at night with a pillow...

If the Doppler study was normal then you should get a blood test for renal functions including urea and creatinine to exclude renal impairment as a cause of your symptoms.

I hope you find this helpful... Feel free to ask further...

Regards
