I Am A 57 Year Old White Male. My Right

Question: I am a 57 year old white male. My right knee swelled and when it cleared it left a slightly raised red mark surrounded by discolored white/pink skin. I have seen a dermatologist twice. The first time about a month ago liquid nitrogen was used on the red spot. After my second visit, the dermatologist thinks it's an inflammatory process and gave me clobetasol 0.05%. I can only use that for a few weeks. Am I on the right track or is there something else I need to pursue?

Hi there

Thanks for the query

Has your Dermatologist told you what the condition is called?
Has your knee been swollen and function of knee impaired?

Upon looking at the pictures it appears that the process is resolving.

I suggest you get some blood tests like Complete blood count, CRP and ESR as well to note the severity and monitor the resolution of the inflammatory process.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Aashish Raghu

My knee became swollen for just a few days 2-3 months ago and I have noticed no impairment since. My dermatologist called it atopic dermatitis. Any guess as to how long this will last? Will my doctor have me off and on the clobetasol. It's only recommended I use it for two weeks at a time.

Atopic dermatitis needs to be controlled by avoiding the allergen which you or your dermatologist identifies. You will need to be careful to prevent it from happening in the future.

Does that explain my symptoms? The red mark surrounded by discolored/ scaly skin?

Unfortunately I won't be able to confirm if it is Atopic dermatitis as I am not a Dermatologiat, but your symptoms and signs do indicate dermatitis or inflammation of the skin.
