Question: Hiii,
I had a protected sex with a sex worker in Dubai. My condom wasn't torn and it didn't slip of as much as I remember. I was also done in like 2 mins. After that I took a Elisa after 6 weeks which was non reactive then at 8 weeks rapid spot test which was negative then at the 9 weeks I took a pcr DNA HIV which came not detected and after 10 weeks I took an Elisa again which was non reactive. Am i out of danger or I still need to get tested after 12 weeks to rule out HIV completely. Really tensed please advice me. Thank you

Brief Answer:
HIV negative. Can Go for HIV RNA PCR to allay fear

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query. I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
The chances of transmission of HIV by sexual route is 1/ 200 to 1/2000 even if the partner is HIV infected. It is least as you have protected intercourse. The partner may be negative also.
Then the tests are negative is a good sign.Though the antibodies can appear in few until 3-6 months the antibody based tests are not reliable at this stage.
But DNA PCR test is negative is a good sign.and tells for almost sure you do not have HIV.
I do not see any possibility of HIV in you with all the descriptions and tests done.
If you are still anxious i would recommend HIV RNA PCR which may be more reliable and FDA approved also at this stage to allay your fears.
You can get back to me for any clarifications.
Thank you
Dr Bharatesh

So an Elisa after 12 weeks is not conclusive u mean to say. ? But doctors across the world regard this as conclusive . as much as I have read about HIV and second I m not on any kind of meds that can delay my antibody production.

Brief Answer:
Conclusive and no need for test

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
Elisa is usually conclusive by 3 months or 12 weeks. But there are few individuals who can get antibodies later and is rare.So we keep 3-6 months range.
As mentioned earlier there is no fear of HIV in you at all.
it is the patients anxiety associated with the disease makes us repeat the tests.
As i already said no need for tests .

Brief Answer:
Yes you can lead normal safe life.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.
There is no chance of HIV as your Elisa and even PCR DNA test is negative.
The PCR detects viral components so you are negative for both viral particles and antibody.so i do not see any reason for you to get anxious and repeat tests.
So you can lead a life as normal as others but please do not get in to such anxious moments again.
I wish you safe and good health.
