How To Remove Sutures On Knee?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: i personally wish to remove my sutures on my knee--they have been in for 12 day. The wound looks good and has healed well.
I do have a sterile suture removal tray
I am a retired registered nurse and have forgotten the best way to do this. Do I cut any side right next to the knot?? what is your suggestion for where to cut the sutures
thanks!!!

Brief Answer:
This should preferably be done by a nurse.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for using Healthcare Magic. You do not mention what type of sutures or how many and what the operation was. I would not recommend removing them yourself as you are risking infection if not done expertly. However, the usual technique would be to cut the suture at any point being careful not to damage the wound or skin.
I hope this is of help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
