Brief Answer:
Great decision, you can stop with help of medicines

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us.

I appreciate your decision to quit smoking.

30-40 cigarettes per day since more than 15 years is very high. Your body is very much dependent on it. You can not stop it without medical support.
After such heavy intake if you stop cold turkey it will lead to severe withdrawal features like headache, anxiety, restlessness, sleep disturbance, constipation, not able to concentrate on work and so on.

Medicines like Bupropion, propranolol, benzodiazepine, multivitamins will help. With these medicines you will not have withdrawal features or they will be the least.
If you want to stop cold turkey better to get admitted in hospital and quit.
If you want to quit on OPD basis , you need to consult doctor almost every second day . In that case every second day you need to cut down your total number of cigarettes and medicines will be changed in dose according to severity of withdrawal.Considering your intake your total physical examination through chest X-ray and ecg as well as some blood investigations should also be done to prevent future health consequences.
Consult deaddiction specialist/psychiatrist and move forward.

I wish you all the best for great decision. It will help not only to you but also to your family.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
