Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good day,

Thanks for visiting health care magic.
Your question is very interesting.
In fact I need a bit more of information like your height, weight , smoking status, alcohol intake, exercise etc. Have you had a fasting glucose or lipid profile( cholesterol) test done?

Insulin is a good hormone when produced in sufficient quantities, but not that good when produced in excess amounts by the body. Body produces excess insulin to overcome a condition called Insulin resistance. Insulin resistance can be due to a number of conditions like obesity, certain genetic conditions etc. Here, the tissues are not that sensitive to the actions of insulin and to overcome this resistance, body produces excess insulin. Excess insulin does all the bad job.
Insulin resistance is manifested in body by having acanthosis nigricans and skin tags (please check out the pictures of same in google). If the excess insulin production continues for a long time, pancreas get exhausted, and person may develop diabetes.

Now coming to your question, to lower insulin production, there are 2 things to remember. Weight loss and exercise. You have to reduce some weight, atleast 5-10% of your current weight. Exercise for 30-45 minutes a day. These two reduces insulin resistance and when that happens, excess insulin production comes down. It is important to eat a low carbohydrate diet as well.

I hope you will write to me soon with your weight and height and other details which I asked you.
Regards
Binu

hello I am 5ft 10 " weigh 184 lbs. I do not smoke or drink. I get a lot of exercise walking and bicycle. I have not had any test done. My immediate concern is lowering my blood pressure as my meds do not seem to work because of my high insulin out-put.

Brief Answer:
Hi

Detailed Answer:
So your height is approximately 175 cm and weight is 84 kilos( 184lbs). your body mass index is 27 kg/m2 which is slightly above normal, but certainly not in obese range ( if you are a Caucasian). It is good that you are exercising well.

What makes you think that there is high insulin out put in your body?
Cozaar is losartan , which belongs to an ARB class of antihypertensive drug. Some people are resistant to these group of drugs ( particularly XXXXXXX americans/blacks). You may have to reduce 2-3 kg in weight and reduce salt intake. If that doesn't help, then need to increase dose of Cozaar or change over to a different class of anti hypertensive drug.

If you are suspecting insulin resistance ( high insulin output), you may need to do a fasting glucose tests and fasting cholesterol profile ( lipid profile).
