How To Lose Body Weight?

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Oct 2014
Question: I lost 95 lbs 12 years ago by giving up sugar, flour, and quantities and joining Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous. I have not had sugar or flour since then, weigh and measure all my meals so as to guarantee normal proportions. I eat cooked 2 four oz portions of cooked vegetables, 1 fruit, 2 four oz portions of salad, 3 four oz portions of protein, 2 tablespoons of dressing that doesn't have sugar in the first four ingredients. I eat 1 oz of grain weighed prior to cooking 2-3 times per week only due to gaining weight gain if I eat every day. I am no longer type II diabetic, have hypothyroidism, and post-menopausal. All my blood work is excellent. If I eat 1000 calories I maintain or gain weight. The only way to lose is to drop to 700-800 calories. I have gained twenty pounds since 2009, can't get it off, and it keeps climbing. I have been to an endocrinologist, gastroenterologist (to check my liver function), and gynecologist. No one has any answers for me. I work out 6 hours a week, 2 weights, 2 aerobic, 2 yoga or floor exercise, plus weekly bike riding or walking. Do I have to become obese and unhealthy again before someone can help me? Please, can you help me find out what is causing this gain so I can stop it. I am mortified that I am heading back to 224 lbs. My current weight is 157 lbs and in 2003 I had dropped to 131, which I maintained for 7 years eating a lot more food than I do now.

Brief Answer:
Losing weight

Detailed Answer:
Good day,

Noted your concerns. I must agree with some of your doctors that, as one get older, the metabolism slows down. We do have to boost metabolism and lower the calorie intake.

I agree that it is not easy to lose weight, once you are obese. CAlorie restriction is the only way. Since you are obese, and to attain negative calorie balance, you need to maintain on an 800 calorie diet. TAke very minmal carbohydrate for dinner.
Use proteins and lean meat. Since you dont have hypothyroidism, we have to look at other causes like Cortisol excess as one other cause of weight gain. I am sure that your endocrinologist would have looked at that part.

Exercise minimum of 45 minutes to one hour daily.
With constant weight watching and calorie restriction, you can acheive the target weight.

As an endocrinologist people always complain to me about inability to lose weight. Many a times y find them dieting on the week days, but partying on weekends. Avoid weekend parties and binge eating as much as possible. ( this is one thing i have noticed. People do crash dieting on week days and do binge eating on weekends). Alcohol is rich in calories. On an average, on a week end dinner, one takes around 800 to 900 calorie food. This is something we have to avoid.

You may also need to meet a nutritionist to customise your meals.

Binu
