How To Get Rid Of Sotalol Side Effects?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: I have been taking sotalol for two years and have been advised to change meds. Have side affects such as nightmares and anxiousness frequently. It also seems to put me in a bad mood. The other night I forgot to take my evening dose and woke up in this morning after very unpleasant dream and felt jittery. I read this is a side effect. Please advise. I cant wait to get off it, but don't have a follow up appt for weeks. Also wondering if stopping it will repeat the symptoms I had this morning.

Brief Answer:
Change of medication suggested

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic.

With respect to the possible side effects, I think your medicine needs to be changed. There are other beta blockers other than sotalol that can be taken without the fear of such side effects.

Since this is a prescription medicine, and since there is some time before the scheduled appointment, I insist that you visit the emergency room of a hospital and get it prescribed.

It is hard to comment if the side effects should resolve immediately and that the nightmares will go immediately but you would have to give it a try. Once the medicine gets cleared from your blood, the side effect is likely to subside. Do not worry about whether it will come back. Stay relaxed and everything will be fine.

Thanks for writing back. I would not suggest skipping a dose without getting an alternative medicine prescribed by a doctor. I hope that you would be able to visit the ER today.
