How To Confirm Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Feb 2015
Question: I have sore breast, I am fatigue, my lower back hurts, I have white discharge, abdominal pain, head aches, frequent urination and have had five positive pregnancy tests all different boxes none were the same test. First positive was faint on Thursday, Friday took another and it was a little darker came out quicker, Saturday was even darker and came out a little later than the ones on Friday, Sunday came out a lot darker and the fastest. Today Monday I took another one and it is negative so I am really confused as to why, I took another one later on and it also came out negative. So I have two negatives and five positives. I need answers.

Brief Answer:
get a serum beta hcg test done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for contacting HCM .
In case of discrepancy in the results of urine pregnancy tests, the best way to confirm or rule out pregnancy would be to undertake a lab based blood serum beta hcg test. This is sensitive and specific for hcg and detect even very low levels of hcg thereby giving the results accurately.
If the levels of hcg are more than 1 or raised , then you are pregnant for sure , else if it is less than 1 , then pregnancy is ruled out completely.

Okay, Thank you so much. Are they more sensitive than a home pregnancy test? And if its not pregnancy is there any more information you could give me about what could be causing this.

Brief Answer:
if test negative, these symptoms are PMS.

Detailed Answer:
Yes indeed it is not only more sensitive but confirmatory as well. If the pregnancy is ruled out then the symptoms of sore breasts, headache, low backache, abdominal cramps, mood swings, nausea, fatigue, and even increased frequency of urine form a part of premenstrual syndrome which may mimic early pregnancy symptoms and in absence of pregnancy would indicate that your menses are to ensue in next few days. but if pregnant then these are early pregnancy symptoms.

Okay Thank you so much, yes I am about 10 days late on my cycle. So one can only hope that is what it is. We were not expecting to get pregnant nor trying to. This is a big XXXXXXX if it is pregnancy. I will contact a doctor first thing in the morning and get the blood test. Thank you again so much. I have been on the pill for about six years so I surly can't be pregnant. But this has me very worried because I am high risk.

Detailed Answer:
thanks so much for consulting. Also if you have been on pills , then the chances of pregnancy are even more lesser. But serum beta hcg test is mandatory in your case to allay all your anxiety.
