Question: I am on my third round of antibiotics since March 15th when I had a tooth pulled. The infection keeps coming back and my gums are swollen and leaking pus. I am on 900 mg. of Clindamycin that I started today. Is this dangerous to be going on so long?

Brief Answer:
Get an x ray done.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

Repeated infection at the site of extraction can be due to improper healing, high blood sugar levels and can also be due to any remaining portion of tooth or its root.

So first of all you should get an x ray of the extraction site done and along with it once get your blood sugar levels tested.

Taking too much antibiotics can cause resistance.

But if active infection is present now you have to take antibiotics to prevent its spread.

Please let me know if I can help you further.

Thanks and regards.
