How Risky Is Unprotected Oral Sex While Having Bleeding Gums?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: I recently kissed and performed unprotected oral sex (cunnilingus) and anal rimming to a stripper. I suffer from bleeding gums. What is my risk of having contracted an STD, most importantly HIV? Should I take PEP? Should I do a blood RNA test for quickest results after 11 days? I have a partner and do not wish to potentially infect them.

Brief Answer:
HIV infection extremely rare.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query at HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.

As per your history the risk HIV infection is extremely rare almost negligible even though you are having bleeding gums. I would suggest you not to worry but yes you may take an PCR RNA after 3 weeks and ELISA test 4 th generation after 12 weeks. The HIV does not get commonly transmitted by the method you described. As there was no penetrative intercourse you are at least risk. But yes the chances of STD are possible. I would suggest that you must observe for any oral lesion to ensure no risk of other STD as well. No need of any prophylaxis for HIV but you may take medicines like azithromycin for other STD after doctors prescription to avoid chlamydia or gonorrhea infection.
