Brief Answer: It's almost pain free procedure Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Dear Ms First and foremost let me reassure you there is no cause for concern as it's almost painless procedure. Fine needle aspiration cytology is the commonest biopsy procedure done for thyroid. It involves using 23 gauge needle insertion which is a very small callibre thin needle. When it pierces the skin it causes very little discomfort. The pain level is equivalent to the routine intramuscular injection which one takes. So would suggest you to be calm and go for the procedure with a relaxed mind there seems to be absolutely no need for concern and worry. Wishing you a very happy and healthy life. Take care Best Regards Dr T Shobha Deepak MBBS, MD
