How Much Unit Of Lantus Injection Can Be Injected?

default
Posted on Sat, 3 Jan 2015
Question: Hi. I think I just injected 40 units of air into my stomach instead of Lantus. Then I injected 15 units of Lantus. Now I don't know what to do. If the first injection was insulin, then I have injected 55 units. My prescription is for 40 units. If it was air then the second injection is 25 units too little.

Brief Answer:
Lantus insulin dosage

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
There is no scope of injecting air if you have used Lantus solostar pen device.
As you dial piston pushes down the insulin solution before it. Air does not gain any entry to pen before the piston.
If you have used a Lantus vial and insulin syringe, then it is possible to draw only air in place of solution by mistake and even then it will produce an air bleb under the skin of your abdomen and you will get crackling sensation (crepitus) as you press the area.
Lantus is slow acting basal insulin. What you can do is home glucose monitoring ,if you have any device with you, to check for hypoglycaemia every 06 hours for next 24 hours.
Too little insulin for one day won't make much difference, for your diabetic status but too much insulin may.
