Brief Answer:
It should be ad libitum , 140-200 ml per kg/ day

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I'am Dr Suresh K Yadav MD (paediatrics), I had gone through your question.

Feeding should be ad libitum , usually 140-200 ml per kg per day is sufficient to allow a weight gain of 25-30 gm per day in first three months of life.

i just have another question

Can appearance wise when the child is born down syndrome be ruled out ?
i mean just by looking at the baby down syndrome be ruled out...or when generally a baby is born how to rule out down sundrome

its just a question?

Brief Answer:
Typical facies

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is typical facies along with other clinical features like poor reflexes , small head , hypotonia that most of times gives a straightforward diagnosis of Down syndrome , to be confirmed by karyotyping . In case of doubt again karyotyping is going to help .

In a normal appearing baby , diagnosis is automatically ruled out.

So it is just by looking and clinical examination most of times it can be ruled out or diagnosis established , in case of doubt and for confirmation one can do karyotyping .

I don't ve any doubt

Doctors saw my baby and said baby does not have Down syndrome also I had quad test which was normal
I was just curious that
Can Down syndrome be ruled out just by looking at the new born baby ?

I just wanted to be sure that on normal practice
Is Down syndrome ruled out by looking at baby if everything looks normal on the baby ?

does it mean down syndrome?

i mean my baby has been sticking out her tongue sometimes and i read on internet it is a sign of down syndrome ...

does it mean if a baby sticks out tongue he/she has down syndrome?

also is it advisable to give pacifier (nipple) to a 45 days old baby if she cries a lot at night?

Brief Answer:
Sticking out tongue sometimes is normal

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Regarding Down syndrome , although protruding tongue and open mouth is a feature of Down Syndrome, alone it is of no significance if there are no other features supporting it . Sticking out tongue sometimes is normal . If her examination by a paediatrician is normal I do not think any reason to worry . By now she may be giving you smile, partial neck holding will be present as part of development.

Regarding use of pacifier , I do not advice use of pacifier for excess cry , it can be used at bed time if hygiene and other precautions are taken care of . The AAP recommendations are as follows:

1.Offer a pacifier at nap time and bedtime. Do not force an infant to use a pacifier. Do not reinsert a pacifier after the infant falls asleep.

2.Pacifiers should not be coated in any sweet solutions.

3.For breastfed babies, the pacifier should be delayed until 1 month of age to ensure that breastfeeding is firmly established.

Brief Answer:
It is indicative of normal development

Hi ,

It is indicative of normal development ( there is development delay in down syndrome ) . So it is good sign and against diagnosis of Down Syndrome . Taking tongue sometimes out and white coating of milk is normal.
