How Much Celebrex Can Be Taken In A Day?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Aug 2018
Question: 67 yo 235 pound male
for the past few days I have had an aggravated lower back pain, on both sides of my spine above my hips.
I've been working hard nailing in baseboard and caulking on the floor, so i have had to get down and up on my knees several times in a day and a few times on a short step ladder.
no heavy lifting more than 40 pounds
I regularly ( for more than 10 years) take naproxen sodium, as I am not only athlete but renovating a house.
this morning I awake at 5 and could barely roll over. I had to go to the floor to get into erect position, as I could not bend.
now I sit at my desk and write you.
I took (2) 200 mg naproxen sodium and 200 mg of Celebrex.
also I applied hot cold liquid gel to the area.
I was advised by my MD at the time in 2005 that I could take up to 800 mg of naproxen sodium per day for my weight which was 210
I have read the Celebrex instructions but nothing is stated about WHEN to take the second 200 mg in 1 day, if needed.
common sense is take then 12 hours apart.
I have no history of liver, kidney, heart, problems.
so my questions are
#1 how much NSAID Celebrex do you feel I can take in 1 day?
#2 how long before the Celebrex kicks in? i know it is a case-by-case basis, each individual is different, but is it 30 minutes? or 4 hours?
#3 do you recommend something else, instead of, or along with what I am taking?
#4 is there something you can say besides answers to my questions?

Brief Answer:
Taken twice daily, at least 8 hours apart.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

(1) The dose of Celebrex varies according to the situation being treated. For acute pain, as in your case, the dose is 400 mg initially, an additional 200 mg can be given if there is needed ONLY on the first day. This is followed by 200 mg twice daily as needed, at least 8 hours apart.

(2) Peak levels of Celebrex in the body generally occur by 3 hours after it is taken, there would be mild relief before this point.

(3) The pain medication is fine, you should continue to rest as much as possible, apply the cold compress 2 to 3 times daily for 15 to 20 mins.

After the first few days, you can use warm therapy.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
Hands and eyes needed.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Sorry, the second question would have come through 5 hours ago, at approximately 2 am in the morning my time.

Spinal stenosis is scary to contemplate. As you stated, it is narrowing of the SPACE around the spinal cord.

There are some persons, with spinal stenosis, who have no symptoms because the degree of narrowing is mild. There are others who have back pain, back pain is the most common complication and complaint in spinal stenosis. Majority of persons do not have paralysis.

It can be severe in some persons. In some, the spinal stenosis can be associated with a herniated disc.

I definitely agree that you need a set of eyes and hands as well (to examine).

It is quite possible, with pain medication and physiotherapy that you would have significant pain relief.

Take care.
