How Long Will Shoulders Take To Heal After A Shoulder Surgery?

Question: I had shoulder surgery in aug 2013 after a fall, I had metal and 7 screws put in my shoulder, it never healed , I was in a lot of pain all the time, after the Doctor telling me one screw was too long and the next time that the metal slipped and I would need more surgery I thought I should get a second opponion, went to Morgantown and they said it was a screw inbedded and they sent me to Cleveland and I HAD Reverse ball and socket replacement,5 weeks ago, DURING Surgery I lost 2 pints of blood and had to be on a ventilator, I seem to be on the mend and my pain is no were near what I HAD WITH THE FIRST SURGURY AND AFTER, BUT IT STILL HURTS!, How long will it hurt with this type of surgery? my age is 64. Will I ever have use of my arm/?I XXXXXXX t been able to use it since my first surgery . Thank you

It's really sounds like you have had a difficult time with your shoulder. sorry to hear that.

To reassure you your pain and mobility should improve but after the ordeal you have been through it will likely take a few months for the symptoms in your shoulder to get as good as they are going to be.

Unfortunately I would not expect you to regain a full range of motion of this type of surgery. if you are able to flex and abduct your shoulder to 90 degrees you will be doing very well. You will likely not be able to work overhead with this arm in the future.
