If the abdominal pressure is high before the wound has healed well. You need to avoid lifting weight for at least 6 months. Always try to have good bowel movements. Straining during bowel movements can predispose to hernia. So take high fiber diet and drink lot of fluids. Chronic cough again can lead to hernia. So get treated promptly if you have cough.
