Question: My husband had quadruple bypass 17 months ago , after coming home within 4 days he was back to hospital with a bacteria infection, after iv antibiotics and oral ones at home he wore a wound vac to reseal the wound, now he just had a huge lump appear on the upper part of his chest, upon ckg he had infection again, they open him up cleaned out infection and removed wires that held breath bone together and put on a wound vac, he goes everyday for iv antibiotics treatment to hospital, but concern has come up by the nurses that he is healing outside but inside wound all you see is cartilage and bone, so outside healing and inside still open, how do I relay this to the dr or should I get another opinion

Brief Answer:
Inside healing will take its time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for choosing health care magic for your query!

Our body consists of its own internal enviroment which is seperated from the external enviroment by a barrier called skin.Body maintain its own envviroment by a process called homeostasis.Skin acts as a barrier between the pathogens outside and our body tissue inside.
As per your query if the skin is healing then its good.If the primary bacterial foci inside the wound are destroyed then tissues are seperated from external enviroment by skin.
Tissue formation will take some time, degenerated muscles will also take time to fill up tissue space,But if skin is almost healed and there is no oozing pus its a very good sign.
Internal tissue formation will take its natural time so don't worry.
Supplement him with zinc, folic acid and vitamin c they help in rapid healing.
A swab culture should be taken from wound site every 3rd day

Thank you!
