How long does metacarpal base fracture take to heal?

Question: Will an avulsion of the base of the fifth metacarpal heal or give me trouble indefinitely.

I appreciate your concern

Both metacarpal fractures as well as dislocations are primarily treated non operatively by immobilizing after reduction of the metacarpal base fracture. At least a month of splinting is required. IP joints of the finger should be encouraged to perform active movements during this immobilization phase. The outcome of such 5 th base metacarpal avulsions is generally very good if there is no mal union in which case the movement range can be affected.
