Question: good day doctor, during recent medicals my SGOT (77) SGPT (117) and GGTP (63) levels were found high...doctor prescribed me Tab.Silybon 140 , Tab.Udiliv 300 and Liq. Sorbilene each 3 times a day along with abstinence from alcohol and fatty food... He asked me to repeat the test after a week...Is it possible to bring down levels to acceptable levels within the time frame as I need to pass the medical test for employment...I am following exact diet as prescribed...What are the accepted levels to pass the test...Hp B and C tests are negative...My weight is 74kg and height 159cm...

Brief Answer:
May take some time

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in

Your doctor is right, abstinence from alcohol & fatty meals along with these medicines will reduce the liver function to normal but may take some time

It is usually ranging from three to six weeks

Repeating after a week will give an indication if the medicines are working or not

Acceptable levels differ with reference ranges and method used to perform the test along with the units in which the value is reported

I would suggest you get the reports done after a week and upload the baseline and the new reports and I will guide you further

Hope this helps

Good day doctor
Thanks for your reply.
I was never a regular drinker but used to binge occasionally on alcohol and fatty food which I have stopped completely.
I wanted to know if these elevated levels can fail the medical test or slightly higher levels are tolerated with proper diet and medicines like other chronic diseases such as diabetes.
I will revert back with my test reports next week.

Hi

Thanks for writing in again

I would suggest you refer the manual of merchant navy or consult some XXXXXXX person in the same

Usually defence forces do not permit variations so there are chances you may be rejected on these grounds

Hope clear
