Question: Hi Doctor. Me and my partner had intercourse 2 weeks back. That time she had stomach infection and loose motions and was taking medicines. We did not use protection that time. Can she be pregnant?This is also the first time we have had intercourse. Please inform if pregnancy can happen in one go, while the other person is on medications. I

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for your reply. How long does it take to know whether the person is pregnant or not? If contraceptive pill are taken now, can pregnancy be avoided? What are the signs of pregnancy? as we have not faced any normal symptoms including nausea or morning sickness, etc. My partner is still suffering from stomach infection and is having imodium and norflox? Can you also tell me what medications to cure stomach ache and loose motions?

1) It takes 4 weeks after sex for urine pregnancy test and 2-3 weeks for blood HCG test to be valid.

2)NO not contraceptive pill but take iPILL or unwanted-72 pill within 3 days of sex. It will help. I pill is not helpful beyond 3 days after intercourse.

3) Signs of pregnancy are often non specific and non reliable. Do not go by them. Signs are nausea , vomit , increase in breast size, breast pain, .

4) I prescribe Tinidazole and metronidazole combination for 5 days to my patients. Discuss with your treating doctor. Drink plenty of ORS. And if it does not stop even with this after 5 days get her to a hospital.
