Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking.
Squamous cell carcinoma of esophagus is the most prevalent esophageal cancer worldwide.
How long does it take to develop oesophageal cancer??? I can say that there are a lot of studies regarding your query but I can say that it depends on risk factors, quality of risk factors treatment like GERD or Barrett's esophagus. What I can say is that it needs more than 1 year of growth to be visible by upper endoscopy.
Otherwise I need to know more about the specific cause , so I can give you a more accurate opinion.
Wish you all the best!

So I'm a bit of a worrier.

I had an endoscope in dec 2014 (around 1.5 years ago) and I know they usually do microscopic tests on biopsies gathered from your body and it all came back normal with mild osesophigitis in keeping with someone who has had acid reflux treated by PPIs.

Over the last 6 months or so I changed depression medication from an SNRI to an SSRI and since then I've suffered pretty bad reflux and gnawing in stomach feeling sensitive from my throat all the way down to my lower oesophagus and stomach. My doctor recently put me back on SNRI medication to see if this change had a gastroesophagal impact.

I was just wondering if I need another endoscope or if the one I had done at the end of 2014 is enough to keep my fears away. I have had around 7 or 8 endoscopes in my lifetime.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

You are reporting that you have done upper endoscopy plus biopsy on decembre 2014.

To my opinion you dont need to do endoscopy again since you have ruled out Barrett's esophagus with biopsy.

You can do upper endoscopy after 5 years from the last one, since you are suffering from acid reflux.
During this time it is important to use PPI'S ,has a healthy diet and avoid unnecessary stress.
Hope it was helpful to you.
