Question: I have a fracture of the distal tibia with intra -articular extension how long does it take to recover from this injury and what are the chances of getting blood clots or dvt from this injury

it depends on degree of dislocation and the type of treatment. if this was nonsurgical with cast immobilisation then recovery is expected within4-6 weeks. in case of surgical fixation it is faster,3-4 weeks. now, risk of thrombosis is relatively low but depends on few factors: length of immobilization,body mass index, age, previous venous thrombosis, conditions of heart ,smoking and diabetes. if there are some of these factors present and you are aged+45, then you should have anticoagulant therapy with subcutaneous heparin.
