Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern

Healing and bone stabilizing occur in 6 weeks. However, complete healing can take up to 6 months.
During the first 6 weeks, avoid strenuous activity and do not lift more than 10 pounds. Walk around for at least 2 hours a day.

Make sure to bend knees while picking up anything from the ground rather than bending at spine. Wear brace for first 6 weeks. He can use ice to relieve pain. Pain medications like oxycodone will usually be prescribed for 3 months post-surgery.

After 6 weeks he can slowly increase the level of activity according to the comfort level. Physical therapy can also help strengthen muscles.

Avoid smoking and alcohol during recovery time.
Avoid NSAIDs like Advil, Aleve as it can affect the bone healing.
