How long does Amitriptyline tablet take to get out of the system?

Question: I took 1/4 of a 10mg amitriptyline tablet once at night for 4 nights. How long will it take for the amitriptyline to get out of my system?
Brief Answer:
May take from 2 to 5 days
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
for complete removal of the drug from your body, it will take from 2 to 5 days. This drug has a half-life of 9-27 hours depending on various unpredictable (for any particular individual) factors. Complete removal (more than 95% of the drug) requires 5 half lives that is 45 to 135 hours (2-5 days).
I hope I've helped!
Kind Regards!

2.5 mg of amitriptyline is a rather small dose, correct? I am also taking 1/2 of a .25mg xanax pill during the morning hours. I am going to a social event this evening and was told by my pharmacist that it should be safe to drink a glass of wine...but I forgot to mention the amitriptyline I had taken until Friday. Should it still be ok for me to have a single drink at this social event. I know to be aware of drowsiness and possible enhanced effects due to the xanax, my concern is with the possible residual amitriptyline also in my system. Thanks again.
Brief Answer:
You're probably safe!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
2,5mg is a very very low dose and two days after taking it a large part of it has already been metabolized. So although amitriptyline may potentiate the effects of alcohol, I do not consider this a high risk.
Kind Regards!
