How Is The HSV 2 Infection Transmitted?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Sep 2015
Question: My girlfriend I have been with in a monogamous relationship thought she had a yeast infection early in the week. It did not get better. She went in yesterday and the doctor said she has harpies . She told me two years ago she HSV-1. Which apparently is the cols sores. She told me the doctor told her it can transfer into HSV-2. Is this true. When we got together two years ago we were both tested and everything came back negative. Does this mean she has been unfaithful or is what the doctor told her possible.

Brief Answer:
Can take a test for Hsv 2

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query and i have noted down your concern.

Hsv 1 and Hsv 2 are different types of hsv and either of them cannot change or transform into another. If she already has Hsv 1 she can go for a specific test for Hsv 2. That would be conclusive.

So the only way to get HSV-2 is through sexual contact . Can you get it and it lay dormant for years. Then flare up due to poor diet or stress?

Brief Answer:
Herpes can lay dormant for years and flare later

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Hsv-2 usually causes genital herpes. Sexual contact is most common route by which one gets Hsv-2 infection.
On the other hand Hsv-1 usually causes oral herpes. It is usually transimitted through kissing.
This distinction is not perfect though and either type of Hsv can cause both Oral and Genital herpes infections.
However, none of the Hsv types can convert Or transform into another type.
In your girlfriend's scenario a lab test for both Hsv types (i.e 1 and 2) would probably give a better idea. If her tests reveal that she is positive for both Hsv type 1 and Hsv type 2 then most likely her genital Hsv is a new infection.
Moreover, you should also get tested for Hsv because you have been in a sexual relation with her.

Yes, herpes (Hsv 1 and 2) can lay dormant for years and flare up due to stress.
