Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for your query.

You have mentioned that you have developed severe sore throat and swollen ankles.

Sore throats are commonly due to viral or bacterial infection. Sometimes, infection of throat due to some specific bacteria (such as Streptococci) can lead to development of joint pain and swelling. This can involve large joints of hands or legs.

You have mentioned that you have ankle swelling. Do you have pain too..??

Inspite of being on amoxicillin, your symptoms are persisting. This means, either the infection is viral or is resistant to amoxicillin.

The following measures should help you:

1. You must get your throat checked. If there is involvement of tonsils, it will need higher antibiotics. A close clinical examination will be sufficient to find out the cause.
2. Amoxicillin + Clavulante or Azithromycin are alternative and better options. Discuss with your primary physician and change the drugs if necessary.
3. Do warm saline and Betadine Gargle thrice a day.
4. Continue Nexium
5. Take some analgesics such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Do consult your physician if symptoms persist even after 24 - 48 more hours.

Hope this answers your query. Please get back if you need any further information.

Regards

Dr Kiran
