Question: hi I am 50 year old female. post graduate degree. I have been healthy my whole life, I have never had an abnormal pap until 2 weeks ago. I have been Diagnosed with HPV... I am shocked. I am married and believe my husband has been faithful. I am not sure how to handle this diagnosis. Has he been unfaithful? Have I been carrying this around for a long time? I am devastated. please help me figure out how I got this

Brief Answer:
Can be an old infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
HPV infection is passed on through genital contact (such as vaginal and anal sex). It is also passed on by skin-to-skin contact. At least 50% of people who have had sex will have HPV at some time in their lives. It does not suggest that your husband has been unfaithful even if he is negative for HPV. Many people who get genital HPV will clear it without treatment and no health problems will occur.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

My results were mildly abnormal. Can HPV. Cause these results? Should I be concerned? Could HPV cause cancer.? I'm scared. I've never experienced this before. If HPV is so non concerning what could cause this abnormality ?

Brief Answer:
HPV can cause abnormal results.

Detailed Answer:
HPV can cause abnormal results. HPV can cause cervical cancer also. But there is no specific treatment to deal with this infection. You only need to monitor the PAP smear and get a repeat test done after 6 months.
Regards.
