How Is Herpes Infection Transmitted?

default
Posted on Tue, 26 May 2015
Question: I just found out I have herpes II. THrough a blood test. I have been with the same man... ONLY him for 20 years. 2 years ago I found out he cheated. Now I have herpes. 1 sore. Is it at all possible he DOESNT have it? He says he's had no sores, but got a blood test Friday... Results to come. I want to be prepared with an answer should he test negative. It would make no sense....unless I've carried this for over 20 years with no symptoms. I was also tested for it 2 years ago when I found out about the cheating...and was negative then.
Question: could he test negative in this scenario? Could I have carried this for over 20 years and NOT passed it to him? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
I have put forward the possible scenarios and what you can expect ma'am

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I completely understand your condition and am really sorry to hear about the recent revelation.

In my opinion, if you have been with only him your entire life then there is a high chance he should have it. It would be interesting to know if you have tested for herpes anytime prior to the time he may have cheated on you?

But in my opinion these are the following scenarios:

1. He cheated on you and got herpes from the woman that he cheated on you with. And after that, when he was with you after that he passed it on to you. But he might have found out either from that woman, or symptoms or just due to an STD-panel he chose to get done because he cheated on you. And then discovered he has herpes, and got treated for the same. If herpes is well treated, then he can return a negative result on the test he has recently got done. In this scenario, he can return a negative result as he may have been treated for herpes, but as you were honest and faithful, and more importantly unaware you may have got the herpes from him and not been treated for it

2. If he cheated on you, and got herpes from the woman and did not get treated for it. Then he should also return a positive result to herpes, just as you did

3. You had herpes from before 20 years ago, may be you got it from someone else. But even with such a scenario, you and the man you are with have been together for the last 20 years and he SHOULD have got the infection from you, so he should return a positive result

I hope I have explained things in a manner best understood by you. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help you ma'am.

Best wishes.

My ex called me today and said he tested negative. I don't understand how this can be. Can you be a carrier and test negative?

Brief Answer:
You can be a carrier and test negative, but in 2 situations

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.

Yes of course, from a recent study many males have been found to have herpes but with absolutely no symptoms of the infection.

In addition to this, testing negative could simply be due to two reasons in my opinion:

+He has taken treatment and has suppressed the infection, which can cause a negative result

+He is currently not experiencing an outbreak and so he may not test positive

But if he has herpes, it will remain active in the nerve ganglions and will outbreak only when he is immunocompromised. So if he has tested negative, he has either taken treatment without tour knowledge or he is currently not experiencing an outbreak. But if you both have been together for 20 odd years, then he should have either given it to you or gotten it from you.

I hope I have explained this in a manner best understood by you. Please do not hesitate to write back to me anytime, I am always here for you.

Best wishes.
