Tuberculosis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by the organism mycobacterium. There are 3 main types of this bacteria which can cause the disease.

Abdominal tuberculosis is caused by the infection and multiplication of the bacteria mainly in the gastrointestinal tract. There are many different types of presentations of this disease even in the abdomen including the involvement of lymph nodes, intestines, mesentery, peritoneum, lower esophagus and stomach, kidneys and (fallopian tubes, uterus and ovaries in females)

The tuberculosis can spread from abdomen to any other part through blood and lymph nodes.

It is said that 20 percent of patients with abdominal tuberculosis might have lung TB.
