Question: Can food in a stomach for 5-6 weeks- go bad/rotten causing food poisoning ? I have tested (by calander dates) by only eating certain vegetables by color- orange-carrots, red tomatoes, green beans etc. 5 weeks later I will vomit orange carrets & the same with other colors. Other types of foods are hard to tell what it is-but vegetables can be confirmed.
I look at food poisoning symptoms & I have the same symptoms-could it be food poisoning along with my stomach problem ?
At a specialist Dr. I swallowed a pill camera and 6 weeks later it was still in my stomach-he had to endo-scope me to take it out.
Unknown reason why my stomach is not emptying.
Besides my stomach problem-I would
like to know if I am experiencing food poisoning on top of my stomach emptying problem.

Hi ,
I read carefully all your concerns and I understand your query.
It is really unusual to have poisoning symptoms after 6 weeks you have used vegetables.
Your yellow and orange secretions from stomach may be due to biliary secretions.
On the other hand you have tried capsule endoscopy test and it couldn't pass the stomach.
This is why to my opinion you need to do a motility study test of GI tract to rule out/confirm gastroparesis.
I would like to know more about your symptoms like:
- do you have diabetes?
- have you loose weight recently?

--I don't have yellow or orange secretions
The orange I vomit are actual carrets-not secretions. Wash the carrets pieces off & you can see it is a carret- you can stab that hard carret with a fork,& the same goes for green beans, rasins, cranberries, regular beans if swallowed whole. -
This means I have weeks old food in my stomach all the time.
Example-I will eat green beans & mark it on the calander & eat NOTHING green for weeks & still vomit green beans weeks later(not Green secretions),same with other colors-red bell peppers which are hard and stabable with a fork.

You said: It is really unusual to have poisoning symptoms after 6 weeks you have used vegetables.--But I have old food in my stomach continually all the time because I eat every day- so yesterdays food is in there-2 days ago is still in there-1 week is still in there & so on.

If food (meat, chicken, etc) is in my stomach that long would it start to decay like
--leaving food in a jar at 98.6 temperature on the kitchen shelf it will decay-or- would it stay preserved inside your stomach & not decay ?

The capsule endoscopy test- Doctor has done more than a hundred of these in 30+ years & never had this happen.

I do not have diabetes & my weight fluxuates up & down.

Hi back,
Thank you for putting more of your medical information.
I would like to know if has been noticed diverticulitis or pseudodiverticulous in upper endoscopy.
Diverticoulous may be full with vegetables and other foods for a long time.

Otherwise if all the food stucks in stomach for e long time than it would be associated with serious weight loose.
In this situation you can try X -ray with barium to study the motility of the stomach.
It will help to measure the time needed to empty the stomach.
So you If there is stenosis of the stomach than surgery is recommended.

Hope it was helpful to you.

Hi-This has been going on for 5 years. 11-1-2011 is about when it started. Now & then I would count the vomit heaves in
in 24 hours,--which was 50 to 80 heaves EVERY DAY & NIGHT.This first year was the worst.I got extremely skinny. The
VA hospital ran many tests upper & lower endoscopy, cat scan, xray, barium, moltility, sonic scan(same as baby in
pregnant woman),& more. They found I was completely healthy-except for an unusual J shaped stomach.I then went to a
civilian hospital & they ran the same tests with the same results. I then went to another gastroenterologist who did a
upper endoscope to use a baloon to try & enlarge the opening (ploric area ?) where the stomach empties into the small
intestines.Later he did the pill camera.I did all preperation prior to--fast,poop medicne & so on.Days later he was up upset
as there was to much food to see anything--asking me if I fasted--I fasted longer than the 24 hours. 6 weeks later back to
do another endoscopy to use a larger baloon to try to open the opening even larger than the first baloon. The first thing he
saw was that pill camera still in my stomach. He pulled it out & enlargened the opening a second time. He told me he
never had this happen, & if the baloon didnt work the next option is surgery-cut my intestines off & attach it to another
area on the stomach.Thats why I think it might be gastroparesis. My symptoms sound like the symptoms of gastroparesis.
Thats why I wander about food poisoning because besides my stomach problem-I also have the same symptoms like
food poisoning. Like when I fasted for the camera--& on the film there was too much food to see anything, along with the
vegetable tests I have done periodically way before the camera test was performed. I still vomit alot but not 50 to 80 times
a day. It varies- all vegys I put in a blender & drink them & try to eat mushey foods.Besides the stomach symptoms---
I get the symptoms like food poisoning says, every 2 weeks or so.Thats why I want to know if its food poisoning.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
With regards to food poisoning I can say that:
1. when the time of passing food in Gi tract is too long than not digested food may cause inflammation of mucosa .
This inflammation cause nausea vomiting etc.
2. On the other hand when the food stucks for a long time in GI track it can be destroyed, contaminated with bacterial infection and as a result it mimic food poising.
3.As a result I can say that you need to consult surgeon and discuss about surgical intervention.
Surgical intervention can remove the most problematic part of the stomach.

It is difficult to continue with this issues since you are not absorbing the proper food and you need liquid diet all the time.

Wish you health !
